A little history.
By the mid 1960’s, the village already knew it needed a village hall, provisions had been made when the new school was built in 1965. The department for education had provided extra money so the school hall could be used as a community facility.
The village hall was very successful in providing a venue for a variety of functions, from harvest festival suppers to village dances. It wasn’t long before the success of the village hall began to interfere with the running of the school.
A very well-attended public meetings was held in the school about the need for a separate village hall. Earl of Gainsborough offered the land where the hall stands today. The parish council provided £2000 with the remainder coming from vigorous fund raising and Rutland County Council. Originally the hall was a farm building large enough for a badminton court and a kitchen.
The official opening of the new hall was in July 1976, it was a hot day, and everyone had a great time. One of the first users was a play group. Amongst other early users were Brownies, Cubs, junior football, adult badminton, bowls, and Youth Club.
The village hall has been very successful over the years providing a safe and friendly venue for the whole community.
